WHAT'S HAPPENING:

THIS YEAR'S SKI TRIP

Here's a photo of the group that went on this year's Ski Trip -- we're on our way to the Stein's Pillars for a Sabbath afternoon hike. (See you next year!)

HELPING HAITI

  • Want to help victims of the earthquake in Haiti? You can donate to the Adventist Development & Relief Agency's work by clicking here.
  • Want to help rebuild the Adventist churches, schools, and conference offices that were destroyed by the earthquake in Haiti? You can donate to this work by clicking here.
  • But if you're thinking of going there yourself, then please read this message from Angelina Wood, the Oregon Conference's Director of Risk Management:

Adventist Risk Management (ARM) is very concerned over the growing number of requests to send volunteer mission groups into Haiti in the near future.  The situation on the ground in Haiti remains extremely dangerous and dynamic as conditions can change at a moment’s notice. ARM has been carefully monitoring this situation with the leaders of ADRA and AHI at LLU -- both of which have major relief efforts under way at this time.  Each of these organizations have said it is unsafe to send un-trained volunteers into the country. Conditions are still overwhelming for trained relief and medical professionals who are working on site.  Sanitation, personal safety, lack of security, risk of disease, adequate food and other injuries all exacerbate the situation and make conditions extremely dangerous at best.

ARM is asking us our support in discouraging volunteer mission groups from going into Haiti at this time.  We are sure the need for volunteers will still remain, several months from now and into the future years as the Church rebuilds its infrastructure once the situation has stabilized and appropriate plans have been mapped out for implementation.

The Oregon Conference’s first priority is the safety of all teachers, students, pastors, leaders, and volunteers.  Therefore the Oregon Conference’s position on this alert is that NO MINORS be sent out on mission trips to Haiti.  If adults decide to go, it will be at their own risk.  However, they will need to acquire the Short Term Travel Insurance.

We would hope that you will support us in trying to make sure that careful planning at the appropriate time is used on any trip that is made into Haiti at this time -- so please discuss with us any plans for future trips to Haiti.

There will be plenty of opportunities in the future as they get pass this initial phase of the catastrophe.  Thank you for your cooperation.

CAMPMEETING

The Oregon Conference does not have it in the current budget to hold Camp Meeting 2010. However, the Executive Committee has supported a specific fund raising appeal for this special event.

  1. We are inviting pledges to financially support the Camp Meeting 2010 expenses.
  2. Written pledges need to be submitted through the local church.
  3. Members are encouraged to use the regular tithe/offering envelope for their confidential pledge.
  4. Local treasurers will collect these pledges and submit the total to Oregon Conference.
  5. If these pledges total at least $250,000 by March 20, then Camp Meeting for 2010 will go forward. An announcement to this effect will be shared with the churches.
  6. The actual cash pledged will need to be forwarded to Oregon Conference between March 20 and May 31.
  7. If the $250,000 total has not been reached by March 20, we will regrettably cancel Camp Meeting for 2010.
